Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 May 2026

This policy explains what information Racks collects and how we use it.

Information We Collect

Racks is designed to collect as little information as possible from you. We do not collect any automated device analytics or data.

Account

When you sign into Racks using Sign in with Apple, we do not receive any identifying or personal information. We require you to sign in before contributing information in order to help us avoid spam and abuse.

We do receive a user identifier from Apple that is unique to your Apple ID within our app. This identifier does not contain any personal information or any other details about you. We store and use this identifier to assist in identifying spam and abuse.

When you sign into Racks for the first time, you are assigned a randomly generated username that will be visible to all users and can be edited.

Submitting a Rack

When you submit a rack, your current location is used to record its position, and you must take at least one photo. You can review both on the preview screen — nothing is uploaded until you tap Submit. Once submitted, the photo and geographic coordinates are stored on our servers and made publicly visible to other users of the app.

Contacting Support

If you choose to contact support using the in-app button, your email client will open with a pre-filled message containing your app version, device model, and region. This information is only sent if you choose to submit the email, and goes directly to our support address.

How We Use Your Information

Submissions

Rack photos and locations are used to build and maintain the database. Racks and any associated information you submit such as photos will be visible to all users. Information you upload will be attributed to you via your username to other users of the app.

In order to comply with the OpenStreetMap Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL), any additional data submitted to OpenStreetMap-sourced racks will also be available via the Racks API.

Support

Device information included in support emails is used solely to diagnose and resolve issues you report.

Data Sharing

Rack photos and locations submitted through the app are publicly visible to all users by design. We do not sell your personal information or share it with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

We may disclose information where required by law or where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to prevent harm, including reporting serious abuse to the relevant authorities.

Data Retention

Data submitted on our servers does not expire. If you choose to delete your account, your submitted racks and photos will continue to exist, however will no longer be publicly associated with your username.

Photos and rack submissions become part of the public dataset upon submission and are not individually erasable. If you would like to request the removal of a specific photo you submitted, you may contact us or submit a report in-app and your request will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

While your account will be deleted, we will retain your Apple user identifier and an anonymous record of your activity in order to assist in combatting abuse, including preventing banned users from re-registering.

Your Rights

Account deletion can be performed in-app while signed in via Preferences > Account > Delete Account

You may request access to your data by contacting us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
